Mamò

“There are grandmothers whose aprons have pockets containing empty vanilla-pudding sachets, so you can hide inside them and sink into the smell of rice pudding.” Mamó is not like that. She is a grumpy grandmother who raises her grandchild alone. The child's father is absent and his mother has died. There are no accessible, loving adults around our protagonist; the world surrounding him is harsh, cold and not suitable for a child. And yet, in his telling, the world is not like that. Through the child's imagination, Mamó rearranges reality – she transforms everything around him into something colourful and joyful. In this way, she teaches us that even in the most difficult situations, we can trust in the safety of our imagination.
