Kateřina Šobáňová

Kateřina Šobáňová graduated from the Faculty of Education at Masaryk University in Brno (teaching for 1st grade primary school with a focus on literature and drama education). Then she graduated from Theatre Faculty at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (Department of Educational Drama). After her studies, she worked as a teacher at the Londýnská Primary School in Prague and briefly led a drama education seminar at the Faculty of Education of Charles University in Prague.
Since 2008 she has been a member of the independent international theatre group Continuo Theatre, where she has participated in the creation of about 30 performances. At the end of 2023 she premiered the production NOSITELÉ, s.r.o., which was the result of a long-term authorial project focused on the research of movement, physicality and expressiveness of the aging human body.
She drew on her years of experience working with the body, movement, material, puppet, voice, and sound, artistic stylization and their overlaps, in addition to acting and directing, she also uses them in her teaching. As a lecturer, she leads theatre and movement workshops for children, students and adults in the Czech Republic and abroad.
In the artistic, pedagogical and cultural organization Plum Yard has been preparing a dramaturgical line for children and young viewers, which has been supplemented for the second year with a creative learning laboratory for kindergartens, primary schools, grammar schools and secondary schools. This project combines the school curriculum Art and Culture, drama lessons for children and students, and theatre or dance productions by companies from the Czech Republic and abroad. Currently, she is the program director of the whole organization.
