Lechința

Lechința is a village of the municipality of the same name in Bistrita-Năsăud county. According to the 2011 census, the population of Lechința has 5,678 residents, showing a decrease from the previous census. The hill in the centre of the village is dominated by a ruined fortress church, built in the 14th century by the Saxons who settled during the reign of Béla IV. The topography is exclusively hilly, consisting on the eastern side of the Carpathian hills (Bistrița hills and Mureș hills) and on the western side of the high hills of the Eastern Transylvanian plain (Jimborului hills, Lechinței hills, Comlodului hills, Mădărașului hills).
