In Marie Jones’s work two characters tell a story of an American film crew filming in Ireland, playing in fact sixteen characters. Jake and Charlie’s lives ran aground so they both see new opportunities in the film industry but for lack of familiarity, they both get a role as a statistician. This is how we get to know, among other things, a pampered diva, a touring assistant director, a local priest, a “single survivor” statistician, and a boy whose life takes a sad turn… Surrounding current questions of status issues, social hierarchy, globalization, and loss of identity besides lined up Hollywood stereotypes in an Irish setting, the play seeks the answer to the eternal question: Where is our place in the world?
