Mera is located 18 km from Cluj-Napoca. It is mostly inhabited by Hungarians, but it is also home to Romanians and Romani. It has a total population of approximately 1,500 inhabitants. The settlement was the property of the nobles of Mera. The village is famous for its buffalo breeding, as well as for the folk costumes and folklore activities of Țara Călatei (a region in Transylvania). Attractions include the Reformed church built at the end of the 13th century, the country house and the milk hall designed by Károly Kós. The village is also the host of Mera World Music Festival since four years, which attracts international tourists to the village every summer.
