Berveni is located in Satu Mare county, next to the Romanian Hungarian border. It is mostly inhabited by Hungarians, but it is also home to Romanians and Romani. It has a total population of approximately 2,000 inhabitants. Berveni was an early inhabited village, part of the Gutkeled estate. Its first written mention dates from 1216. By the beginning of the 18th century, the village was almost completely depopulated, and settlers from Háromszék arrived at the invitation of the elected Reformed pastor Márton Bodoki Henter. Hungarians also moved here from the surrounding villages during the German settlements, so by the end of the 18th century an almost completely Reformed village community was formed, its Reformed church was built in 1806. The village is located in a marshland, of which partial restoration is planned. Currently, the “Sándor Petőfi” Cultural Home provides cultural services to the village, in which the local amateur theater company regularly performs, and the 400-seat house also hosts community events for the villagers.
