Sarnano, a pretty medieval town not far from Macerata, is a renowned health resort, both treatment and holiday spot, but also a center dedicated to winter sports with lots of peculiarities from an historical, artistic and above all environmental point of view. The town centre is strongly divided into the hill ancient medieval village, excellently restored and well-preserved, and the modern town, that is growing on the opposite hill. It has about 3400 inhabitants, but during tourist seasons (summer: July and August; thermal season: mid-season; winter: from Christmas period to March) the number of people increase a lot. Even this town was hit by the earthquakes in 2016. The tremors were felt across a large part of Italy, and serious damage was caused in a number of towns and villages in the southern Marche. While many homes were damaged in the area of the Sibillini national park, many towns are slowly getting back on their feet. In Sarnano some of the restaurants, bars and other tourist facilities are now reopened, as is much of the old centro storico. However the city Theatre della Vittoria remains uninhabitable and for this reason the events within the frame of SPARSE will take place at the Loggiato di Via Roma, or in one beautiful square called Piazza Perfetti
