Turea is located in Cluj county, Romania, in the culturally rich region called Land of Călata. It has a population of about 512 people. 26 km away from Cluj-Napoca, people from 3 different nations live here: Romanians, Hungarians and Gypsies. The majority of the population is Hungarian.
There is a Bánffy mansion in the village. The “Vulture Stone” locally known as the Great Stone, is a tourist attraction that has remained here for millennia. It has snail imprints on it, proving that the place used to be a seabed. Another attraction is the stone house, which is a house in a recessed cave.
Turea is part of Land of Călata, within that it belongs to the villages along the reeds (“nádasmenti falvak”). The traditional costume of Turea is quite beaded and it’s notable for using many different shades of yellow. The village has a traditional costume (“bujka”) maker, a writer, and many other talented people. The women living in the village do a lot of sewing and the men are usually engaged in agriculture.
