It is located 14 km northwest of Cluj-Napoca. It is a mostly Hungarian-inhabited settlement with a population of about 800 people. The name Viștea is considered to be of Slavic origin, meaning: lookout. Indeed, the former Viștea was really a lookout point, because compared to the current settlement, the ancient village had a good view of Cluj-Napoca and the former Szolnok-Doboka county. The village is famous for its stone carving, in the settlements of the area the ornate buildings built by them, carved from white limestone, can be recognized from afar. The woman from Viștea still do beading today.
