The village is located 44 km from Cluj-Napoca and only 12 km southwest of Turda in the valley of the Aranyos River at the foot of the Transylvanian Metaliferi Mountains. Its population is mixed: it is inhabited by Romanians and Hungarians, with a total of approximately 1,500 people. They are mostly Unitarian, and their church was built in the 14th century. There are many tourist attractions in the area: the remains of the former castle of Turda, the rock gorge of the Arieș River, near the Borzești Gorge with the gorge of the Borzești Creek with a waterfall and the Jósika Castle. It got its Hungarian name from the castle rising above it, its Romanian name comes from a Romanian surname, meaning Moldovans. The village is the center of the commune with the same name, which connects together several villages right next to each other. Due to this, there are many houses of culture in the region: in Bădeni, Vălenii de Arieș and Moldovenești.
