Bonțida is a village 30 km from Cluj-Napoca. Its population is mixed: it is inhabited by Romanians, Hungarians and Romani, with a total of approximately 3,000 people. Bonțida was owned by the Bánffy family for 600 years. Here is the Bánffy Castle, one of the largest, and for centuries best preserved, aristocratic castles in Transylvania. The castle was started by Dénes Bánffy in the 17th century. During the various phases of construction, the building was enriched with Renaissance, Baroque, Classicist and Neo-Gothic style features. After the communism, it was returned to the property of the Bánffy family and in 2001 an international program was launched to restore the castle. Since 2013, the Electric Castle Festival has been organized here every year, which is one of the most important music festivals in Transylvania and attracts many international tourists to the village. The village also has a 12th century protestant church and a local culture house.
